Diana Menzies

Since graduating from OCAD I have worked loosely from digital photos taken out the car window. On the highway, my focus has been the vegetation, open spaces, and sky that form the great expanse that is the Canadian landscape. In the city, it is the trees that have caught my attention, poised against the backdrop of rigid urban architectural structures.

The photographic images captured are random, non-precious recordings of a moment, from which I explore a variety of techniques in oil paint. Falling somewhere between realistic representation and abstraction, the finished work is as much about imagination, movement, design, shapes and colours as it is about the visible world itself.

Landscape in Motion is a blur, a fleeting moment in time, a streak of paint racing too fast, an image lost as soon as it is found...
