John Nobrega

In his new body of work, Nobrega explores stereotypes and preconceived notions of masculinity. He uses mythic animals and symbols that imply a permanence and certainty, seemingly glossing over the arbitrary messiness of history. Nobrega also concedes that progression of the institution such as the church, military, and government are modeled on male authority, and that religious, military and political rhetoric overlap in these paintings just as they do in our current social climate.
John Nobrega graduated from OCAD in 1997 and has since exhibited and been collected extensively in North America. His Salon de Paris series was exhibited in 2005.
